How We Test Products
The methodology behind every Picks guide — what ratings mean, what we actually evaluated, and the rules commissions can never touch.

Every buying guide and review on Good Decades follows this methodology, and every rating traces back to it.
What we evaluate
Depending on the category: evidence behind the product type, third-party testing and label accuracy, cost per effective dose or use, durability and fit signals from long-term owners, and the practical details marketing ignores. Each guide states which of these applied.
Honesty about testing
When we have tested a product hands-on, we say so and describe how. When we have not, we say that too — in the review itself, not in a policy page. A review implying testing that didn’t happen is a firing offense here.
Ratings
Ratings score a product against its category’s criteria, not against hype. A 4.5 means “excellent at its job with minor tradeoffs” — and every pick has its tradeoff named, because a product with no downsides is a product nobody evaluated. Every guide also includes who should skip the category entirely.
The commission rule
Good Decades earns affiliate commissions on some links. Commission rates never affect what we recommend, how products rank, or whether a “skip this category” section appears. Ranking by commission would be visible in our recommendations within months, and the trust it would burn is worth more than any payout.
Free samples
If a maker provides a free or discounted product, that fact is disclosed prominently on the page where the product appears — automatically, from our records, not from anyone’s memory.
